SignWriting List
April 21, 2010

Hello Bill!
Thank you for the suggestion of the open source viewer VLC...VideoLan...I just downloaded it and will try it...

And of course you are right...just take each issue as it comes and not try to solve everything - very wise ;-))

Val ;-)

The AVI protocol may not be natively read on a computer and the first, most obvious program to handle it is Quicktime and there have been issues when installing that. I would support Steve in his choice and recommend MP4. It's a compact format that has the greatest chance of being viewed successfully. However, not everyone has the ability to make MP4 so I would suggest that we continue to work with and view whatever format is sent to the list, supporting each other and making recommendations as necessary to succeed.

>>

>>
>> Regarding the viewing of videos on your own computer...for me personally, I use a Mac and I use a program that comes with the Mac called "Apple Mail"...it is my email software and when I receive videos from the List, that are in a format my computer can read, I actually see the video directly inside my email message - it is a fantastic experience and I wish I could give you all the same experience...

>>

What are the video formats that are the best, do you all think, that would make it possible for us to all communicate by video better? Once we establish what video players we all use, maybe we can suggest certain video formats for the List communication...
