Hi Valerie, Erika and friends ...
I do not know if it requires extra effort to write the
document with SignPuddle. I would prefer to write my part with our new
delegs-programm which includes several SignPuddle dictionaries and our team is
going to even enlarge the actual range of sign languages that can be
written with the delegs-editor. . we will announce that in the near future.

As I
understand the idea ... Erika correct me if I am wrong ... this project should
give some insight about the various ideas how to take advantage of the use of
SignWriting within all the different project around the world. My major goal is
to improve literacy for my deaf students and that is the reason for all the
years I put so much time and engery to create all these different databanks
(dictionaries) in order to write bilingual documents.
I am
so happy to see how easy it has become to create immediately wonderfull stuff
to support deaf students in so many ways.

Hello Erika and everyone!
First, thank you for writing a book on SignWriting…I am so happy about
this project and I appreciate everyone's interest in participating - How
exciting!
Second, let me thank all those who have accepted the idea of writing
some SignWriting for Erika's book…
and
Third… We could create a special SignPuddle file, just for your book,
Erika, where writers from different sign languages can come to write and add
their version of the writing for your book. Once you have several documents in
different sign languages, we can teach you and your team what to do, to get the
documents into your publication…
Would you like a public SignPuddle file for your book? I can create it
for you today if it is public…
If your project would prefer a private WebPuddle, we can also create
that. That takes a tiny bit of funding…there is a small annual fee for the
server space…but it is a very small amount as you can see:
Private WebPuddles
But we could get started today with a public SignPuddle file for free,
for your book documents, if you wish - I would create a little flag on the Home
page of SignPuddle just for your work…
SignPuddle Home Page
Thank you again for your creative ideas and for writing the book -
Val ;-)

Hi all! As
some of you know, I am (slowly) working on a book about SW – its development
and use across different international sites (including the transnational
listserv). As part of this research I’ve traveled to visit Valerie and some
other list members, such as Stefan and Maria. I’d love to visit everyone on the
list (at least, every one who was willing!) but unfortunately my limited
funding won’t allow that. Still, I really want as many interested SignWriters
as possible to participate in the book. To that end, I have an idea and I’m
curious what you all think about it.
What if we selected some kind of passage that all of you who
were willing could translate into your respective sign language and write up
using SW? I could devote a chapter of the book to these different texts, which
would allow for a comparison across both different sign languages and different
ways of using SW. Each writer could perhaps reflect on the choices they made in
translating and writing their document, including perhaps how their
backgrounds/goals affect these choices. And perhaps participants could also
provide their own thoughts about what we can learn from the comparison of these
texts.
This is just my initial idea – if you have other ideas
please let me know!
Thanks!
Erika
