Seeing the description, I think that Adam Frost or others who type SignText to create narrative could definitely show examples of where gesture merges signs to create a whole impression, such as "the dog falls asleep" where it is no longer one sign but a merger of several independent signs merged (which to me is what a gesture is). It is where a blending has become linguistic, like "the slow setting of the sun" or "my eyes got heavier and heavier" which is a continuous repetitive motion.

SignWriting List
September 16, 2013

HI Erika -
That a is fine and you make a very good point…this is really me thinking out loud too….

The International Society for Gesture Studies sounds like an interesting conference and it may be appropriate for SignWriting in the future, so back to back conferences crossed my mind - - it is really just me thinking about whether anyone else attending their conference would be interested in the SignWriting Symposium…

At this point, and for other reasons, we need to stick with our dates:

SignWriting Symposium 2014
July 21-24, 2014

I might contact their conference organizers to inform them of our Symposium though - you never know who might be interested ;-)

Val ;-)

Sure- I don't mean to suggest we should change the dates to accommodate me in that regard! I'll figure something out - thank you for your suggestion - that could be great :)
