Hoi,For your information, I am a member of the language committee of the Wikimedia Foundation. Yes, the rule is that we need activity of multiple people and this and that. However, the fact of having people on a committee is also very much that we can bend the rules when there are good arguments for it.The big reason why we need a Wikipedia in any sign language is because it will show that it is possible to have a Wikipedia in a sign language. The reason why I will support the first wikipedia in any sign language is because there are few things likely to get noticed as much as such a precedent. This precedent is particularly important to anyone who communicates in any sign language. Given that there are still people who do not know that SignWriting exists this is really relevant to me.What I want is the children of any secondary school who use SignWriting for their sign language to have assignments that result in the publication in the Wikipedia for their sign language. Consider a class with 20 students, writing one article a week... How many Wikipedias could we have as a result ??Thanks,Gerard________________________________________________On 14 October 2013 21:04, Yair Rand <[log in to unmask]> wrote:
Great to see the ASL Wikipedia expanding.I'm curious, though, whether activity on the site on wmflabs will qualify for the "develop an active test project" criterion necessary for final approval by the WMF and creation of ase.wikipedia.org ? Test projects are typically set up as Wikimedia Incubator projects (for ASL, that would be https://incubator.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wp/ase/M529x544S2ff00482x483S20500519x504S18517503x517 ). Has the LangCom said anything about the acceptability of a non-Incubator-based test project?According to Wikimedia Language Committee's unofficial status page for the ASL Wikipedia (https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Language_committee/Status/wp/ase), a test project is "generally considered active" if there have been over the "previous few months" at least three users making at least 10 edits each in each month.Whether or not moving over to the Incubator is strictly necessary for final approval of the project, it might make sense to do so anyway at this point. Thanks to Steve Slevinski's gadget, page titles can be written in ASL on the Incubator (if I understand correctly, this can't be done on the labs site), ASL links are colored like normal text links, and no special signtext tags are necessary.________________________________________________On Mon, Oct 14, 2013 at 1:30 PM, Valerie Sutton <[log in to unmask]> wrote:
