SignWriting ListNovember 12, 2013Hello Yair and Maria -Thank you, Yair, for this important information about Wikibooks. All the titles that include the term “Wiki” can be confusing.Would Wikibooks accept our SignWriting textbooks that are free to download on our SignWriting web site already? They are certainly nonfiction … I would love to place them on many places on the web...And by the way, thank you for your major contributions to helping us with programming issues for SignWriting on the Incubator site - The flowing columns of SignWriting text, when using Chrome or Safari or Opera web browsers, is so impressive -Maria - regarding your books and literature - we will find ways to post them, I promise - smile -Val ;-)-----------

Wikibooks deals with open-content textbooks, exclusively nonfiction.Wikisource is the project for out-of-copyright texts and translations of such texts. Unfortunately, new languages for Wikisource aren't held on the Incubator like most of the other projects. They are held on the Old Wikisource ( https://wikisource.org/ ). As it is, the SignWriting gadget is not yet available on the Old Wikisource, so displaying any SignWriting on that wiki is not yet possible.________________________________________________On Fri, Nov 8, 2013 at 4:55 AM, maria galea <[log in to unmask]> wrote:
Hi Steve,We may be interested in starting an LSM wikipedia in the near future. Is it easy to paste from SignPuddle to Wikipedia? We have a few translated children's story books in SignPuddle - could we transport them to Wikibooks in the future?Thanksmaria________________________________________________On 7 November 2013 20:25, Stephen E Slevinski Jr <[log in to unmask]> wrote:
Hi SignWriting List,________________________________________________
In the last few months, there have been several improvements that make it possible for Wikimedia Incubator to support SignWriting Text.
All of the Wikimedia projects are now available to any sign language with a valid ISO 639 code. The projects include Wikipeida, Wiktionary, Wikiquote, Wikinews, Wikivoyage, and Wikibooks.
We still have lots of work to do, but the rudimentary support is enough to get off the ground.
This is an open invite to join the ASL Wikipedia as we move to the Incubator. We are accepting new articles. We have been writing the articles in SignPuddle and pasting the articles in the Incubator text areas.
If you want to join us on Incubator, you'll need a Wikimedia login.
After you log onto Incubator, select the link to the Preferences.
Screenshot:
In the Internationalisation section, set the preferences for a "Test wiki" of Wikipedia and a "Test wiki language" of "ase" for American Sign Language.

New articles can be written in the ASL Encyclopedia section of SignPuddle.
http://www.signbank.org/signpuddle2.0/index.php?ui=1&sgn=21
Every article needs a page title as a unique entry with no more than 13 symbols. Additional symbols can be supported, up to a total of 19, but result in a less accurate sort. The Formal SignWriting string for page titles must be less than 255 characters long.
Once you have the title with a custom SignSpelling Sequence, you can use the FSW to create a new page using the Incubator search.
To create a new page, use the FSW of the page title to search on Incubator. The page will not be found, but if the title is short enough, you can create the page.

Click the red link to create the page. Paste in the body text and save.
Regards,
∼Steve
